“As those who have no eyes are called blind, so too those who have no learning are to be called intellectually bind” said by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara.

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara as a social reformer and as well as the reformation brought in education, in the Kerala of the 19th century. In an era, when education was a limited form, at that situation St. Chavara played a major role in educating and uplifting people , especially of the lower ranks of the society. Chavara always dreamt for a dignified society, where people have, more opportunities, to progress and everyone, enjoy equality and freedom, without any discriminations and separations. He was the renaissance leader who brought an element humanity to Kerala’s brutal order. He was determined that the formal education that was denied to him and to his ancestors, had to be made available to the contemporary and future generation. The project that he implemented to uplift the fellow brethren from pathetically backward conditions in educations, print to his far sightedness and courage. He sought to bring about the reformation by issuing a decree that schools which provide education to all, regardless of cast or religion, be established beside the catholic parishes. He was then the vicar general of, Syrian Catholic Church community in Kerala.  By decreeing that parish, schools admit children from all regions and casts.  This was a great movement that committedly done by Chavara. Taking from all his activities we can call him, as a great catholic revolutionary of the 19th century. Not only he consider the education for getting the knowledge, but also he consider education is a way to emphasizing the unity or harmony among children in the in school days .this was an appreciating action in that century. The progress and the development of a society largely depends, on the status of its women, and it was Chavara, who realized the need of empowering women. But now in this era, we see that all this things are motivatedliy   forgetting by the people of Kerala, and also people gives more important for other renaissance leaders, other than Chavara, they are not bothered about his works and contributions. Here, we are the one who take the initiative for proclaiming these matters in this world. Let us also do some great things for the future like St. Chavara did. It is our obligation, let us raise our voice and hands for something good for the future.
                                                                                       Thank you.
