Reflection 5:  Philosophy And Its Importance In Life It is best to start with a definition of philosophy. The word philosophy comes from the Greek, which literally means “the love of wisdom”. So true philosophy is to love wisdom & apply this wisdom in the context of school & work. PHILOSOPHY is a study that seeks to understand the mysteries of existence and reality. It tries to discover the nature of truth and knowledge and to find what is of basic value and importance in life. It also examines the relationships between humanity and nature and between the individual and society. Philosophic thought is an inescapable part of human existence.  Almost everyone has been puzzled from time to time by such essentially philosophic questions as "What does life mean?;Did I have any existence before I was born? Who is god? , What is the purpose of my life? ,Is there life after death?, etc. Most people also have some kind of philosophy in the sense ...

The Value of Life : A perspective based on the lives of  St. John Paul Ⅱ, Cristiano Ronaldo and Justin Bieber. Today we are living in a well-developed atmosphere. The entire world is available on the tip of our finger. The world gives maximum possibilities and pleasures but when we are moving towards the digital world we are missing some moral values, we are forgetting humanity and mutual respect. Our own country is on the path of development. We are trying to be efficient in all the fields. Somehow India has became a terrible land to live. India became most unsecured place for women. People are being killed for the sake of Cow. During the last seven years 28 Indians were killed and 124 people were injured due to the related issues. When we look into Indian Philosophy we can find one term “ AHAM BRHAMASMI ” it means ‘I AM BRHAMAN’. The land which consider man as the image of Brahman becoming very harmful for human life. The world becomes cruel sometimes. The fet...

Reflection 3 : THE SAMARITAN WOMAN AND THE DISCIPLES

Image
THE SAMARITAN WOMAN AND THE DISCIPLES (JN.4:27-38) This gospel passage is very familiar to all of us. There we come across two main characters other than Jesus. They are the disciples and the Samaritan woman. They represents two categories of people. The Samaritan woman represents a zealous religious or even an outsider who has his/her own responsibilities in his family and society. And the disciples represent a passive religious like most of us. The gospel passage deals with the incidents happened after the dialogue between the Samaritan woman and Jesus. When the disciples came back they saw Jesus speaking with a gentile woman. They were astonished. Because she was a Samaritan – a pagan. Very often we also get disappointed or jealous when we see Jesus intervening through laymen or outsiders. They perform miracles, they see visions, they predict future, they hear god’s voice…and we wonder just as the disciples did. There are a number of examples for this. Mario Joseph -...

Dear Friends, We the seminarians, studying Philosophy (2018-20) in Dharmaram College, Bangalore are indeed proud to have launched this blogging site ( Maranatha: Our Lord has come ). We take inspiration for this venture from the words of Jesus, “ Go into all the world   and preach the gospel to whole creation (Mk: 16:15)”. Our aim is to bring Jesus and His message to the maximum number of people. We believe that platforms like blog would be an effective method to evangelize in this digital era. We intend to share here our homilies, meditation reflections, speeches, etc. We will feel fulfilled, if at least one person in any part of the world gets inspired to follow Jesus by this blog. Wishing you Jesus choicest Blessings, Father Master, Animator and Brothers

Reflection (2)           John 16:20-24 Today, we have very beautiful passage for reflection from gospel according to St. John chapter 16 verses 20 -24.Throughout this chapter, Jesus speaks about the of the Holy Spirit and his influence in our life. The first verse of today’s Bible passage is like these “You will mourn and weep, but world will rejoice, you will have pain but your pain will turn joy.” If we analyze this verse, there arouse a question in our mind that why the disciples would have sufferings? For what they would be mourning and weeping? If we read through the Bible we come to know that Jesus presence was the real happiness, strength, power and protection for disciples. Their thought was that they were the most secured people in this world because they have seen the power of Jesus through his miracles and teaching. But Jesus know that He would be persecuted...

Bible reflection on the feast of  St. Euphrasia  -  (Mt 16:24-27). On the background of the feast of St. Euphrasia, the Word of God that we have heard is very much related to the life of the saint as well as to our life. Each sentence has something to convey us. Let us now go through the first sentence of the Word of God that we have just heard now. Let us divide it into 3 parts. First part is about the followers. The main point is that the followers were not chosen by force, but they were self-motivated. The phrase used here is ‘If any want to become’. But, God wants us to choose God out of our free will. In the life of St Euphrasia, she was strongly attracted and fascinated to the love of Jesus at the age of 12. She fought with her parents to enter into the religious life. It symbolizes that she chose God as God wanted it from her. Let us go through the life of St. Chavara. He became a religious in order to become a saint. St. Teresa of Lisie...
